This splendid specimen of Fedoskino realism has been created by Irina Butsinskaya. It shows the little girls sitting on the floor, and holding the ripe apples that have rolled out of the overturned basket.
A rich palette of oils has been used by the artist to make this scene look realistic. Two shining pieces of mother-of-pearl are set into the skirts of the girls depicted from the left and right from the girl painted in the center. Gold paint shines through the oils highlighting the girls' hair, their costumes and the basket.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2001.
