Description:

Sergey Knyazev of Fedoskino is the exceptional talent responsible for this beautiful piece. Sergey is quickly becoming one of the most impressive and recognizable Fedoskino artists. His works always astonish the viewer with their special magnetism and superb decorativeness. Bright, ornamental and expressively painted, they may adorn any collection!
The box shows two beautiful girls dressed in Russian peasant costumes looking out of the window of a wooden house. The work is called “Waiting”, and judging from the title the girls must be waiting for their suitors. Romantic and elevated mood is reflected on their faces.
The major part of the painting is occupied by the wooden wall that is why the palette is dominated by various shades of brown. Silver paint used as an underlayer for the brown oils shines through the wooden architecture.
The girls' rosy cheeks and bright eyes show a youthful beauty and innocence. Their costumes are given a festive appeal with complex patterns and splendidly painted jewelry. Gold metal leaf creates sparkle of the ribbons and golden needlework that adorns the sarafans. Mother-of-pearl that has greenish, lilac and pink undertones is set into the stained glass painted behind the girls. Another piece of mother-of-pearl can be found shining through the rose that one of the girls holds in her hand. Gold paint details foliage of the bushes and trees painted in the foreground and the costumes of both girls. The careful placement of details on several layers of lacquer adds a subtle sense of depth.
The box's exterior is covered with brown lacquer mixed with gold dust; the golden leaves are also scattered against the box's exterior as an original decoration. The box's interior is covered with red lacquer mixed with gold dust. The box's exterior bottom is additionally adorned with sparkling pink spangles. Charming!
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on a flat bottom. On the lid's interior you can find the artist's name, the title, the village name of Fedoskino, and the year of 2007.
