This small oval box has been painted by Tamara Volodina. Painted in various shades of blue oils, it shows the elf boy who invites his girl-friend to the dance. The scene is extended on the box's sides where the artist continues to paint flowers and herbs. Each of the ladybirds depicted here are crafted three-dimensionally. Gold paint and gold metal leaf inlay are used to detail the costumes of the characters. A small piece of mother-of-pearl that shines with bright green-bluish undertones is set into the blouse of the elf girl who is invited to the dance.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box's exterior is covered with light blue lacquer while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title ("Invitation to the Dance"), and the year of 2007.
