Description:

This alluring portrait of Tsar Nikolay II wearing the Order of St. Vladimir was created by Dokuchaeva, one of the most talented modern Fedoskino portrait painters. It is an adaptation of the original painted in 1905 by Henry Manizer (1847-1925). Dokuchaeva has added his personal artistic idea to Manizer's original by painting the scenery of St.-Petersburg whereas in the original the background is blank. The Tsar stands on the embankment of Neva River, and from the left of him the Peter and Paul's Fortress is depicted.
The portrait is framed with a thin gold line. Two parallel gold lines wrap around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
