Description:

This attractive piece of authentic Russian artistry was composed by the talented Tatyana Frolova of Fedoskino. An exceptional array of gorgeous color and design enhance the dreamy nature of the piece. A wonderful addition to any collection.
The artist has depicted a scene from the story of "Ruslan and Lyudmila" written in verse by Alexander Pushkin. We see the evil dwarf magician Chernomor kidnapping Lyudmila, and carrying her to his kingdom. The figure of Chernomor and especially his beard shine brightly in the darkness of a night; this effect has been achieved with the help of gold metal powder. A piece of mother-of-pearl creates brilliance of Lyudmila's sarafan, and one more piece shines through Chernomor's turban. Gold paint is used to detail the costumes of the characters, to draw the geometry of Eastern palaces and to paint the stars that shimmer in the night sky.
The scene is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines wrap around the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, and the year of 2007.
