Description:

This vividly exquisite piece was created by the talented Konstantin Buyko of Fedoskino. The artist commands a powerful brush which yields tremendous structure, execution and decoration. Quality based on subject. Unique based on imagination. A true representation of superior Russian lacquer artistry.
The architectural ensemble of the St. Trinity Laura inspired the artist to create this box. The structure of the composition is very beautiful. In the foreground we can see a monk walking through the balcony of the Refectory Church while in the background the artist has drawn the fragments of the Mikheevskaya Church, the Holy Spirit Church and the Assumption Cathedral (the far background).
The detail of the architecture is worked out with the utmost precision and is painted to the correct proportions. The snow on the buildings justifies the cold feeling in the scene. Gold paint is used to highlight the cupolas on the churches. Silver powder shines through the oils creating a sparkle of the roofs and the cupolas.
The box is made out of paper-mache made. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The edges of the box's red lacquered interior are dusted with black paint. The ornamentation decorating the sides of the box features leaves painted gold and accented with blue oil paint. The box has a hinge from the left of the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title ("The St. Trinity Laura. The Holy Spirit Church"), and the year of 2006.
