This entrancing piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Alexander Feodorov of Fedoskino. Here he has poetically expressed the beauty of Russian countryside in winter. A small white stoned church is powdered with white snow. The big birches with their drooping long branches look so beautiful! A truly fascinating example of winter landscape composition.
The entire scene is painted over a large piece of mother-of-pearl that shines with pink, green, violet and yellow undertones. This helps to reproduce realistically the sunset glow and a sparkle of the snow. Everything here is sculpted with an advanced sense of realism.
The decoration of the box is equally magnificent. The scene is framed with a gold wide band accompanied by intricate gold leafy patterns blooming with light and dark blue flowers drawn in oils. The same ornament wraps around the box's sides. A heavenly design.
The box is made out of paper-mache made. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
