This beautiful box has been painted by Ye. Nechaeva. It shows an episode from the fairy-tale "Ivan Tsarevich and the Firebird". Ivan Tsarevich and Princess Elena soar high above the world on a magic carpet.
The scene is painted in dark tones of oils as the action takes place at night. Gold paint is used to detail the costumes of the characters, the carpet, and to highlight the tree painted in the foreground. Silver paint is used to highlight the river that reflects the moon light. Brilliantly done!
The scene is framed with a silver scan pattern that consists of tiny beads and small flowers. Silver scan patterns in the form of small flowers are scattered against the whole surface of the box's black lacquered exterior. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the year of 2008.
