This exquisite piece, painted with rare ornamental originality, transcends the artistry of this timeless medium. The box was composed by talented Fedoskino artist Sergey Rogatov. His color treatment is of masterful design.
The work is called “Night”, and shows a moonlit night in the Russian countryside. The entire scene is painted over a silver metal powder that help to to create a surreal atmosphere. One piece of mother-of-pearl creates a sparkle of the crescent while another one that shines with bright green and violet undertones is set into the puddle in the middle of the scene.
The scene is framed with a thin gold line. The box's exterior is covered with light green lacquer. For additional decoration the box's sides are covered with gold veins. The interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the year of 2008.
