Natalya Gogina is the artist who painted this beautiful view of the ancient Russian town of Rostov the Great. Rostov is an important tourist centre of the so called Golden ring. It is located on the shores of Lake Nero in Yaroslavl Oblast.
A gold skan design wraps around the sides of the box. Skan are individual gold punchouts that are applied to the box during the drying process of the lacquer.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on four feet. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title and the year of 2006 on the box's exterior bottom.
