Mikhail Shevalkin from the village of Fedoskino has painted this beautiful view of the Novodevichy Convent in winter. The scene is expressively drawn. White tones of the snow covered trees and ground contrast beautifully with the black lacquered background. The cupolas of the cathedrals are painted in brilliant gold paint. The white snowflakes swirling in the dark night sky create a special charm of the composition.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the name of the artist, Fedoskino and the year of 2009.
