Description:

Pavel Anokhin is one of the leading Fedoskino artists who prefers to paint in the surrealistic style. His compositions resemble someone's dreams, and always contain a hidden philosophic idea.
The composition painted on the semicircular box shows a surrealistic scene. The creature that is half a man, half a spirit is hanging in the air filled with a great number of big, white soup bubbles. In the top left corner of the box the artist depicts the white dove that symbolizes the other world.
The composition is intricately painted in light blue and brown tones of oil paints. In some areas gold paint shimmers through the oils but in very minimal amounts.
Along the edges of the lid the artist has written in silver paint the following philosophic statement: “... a man, you have a choice, and you are powerful, but with a what grimace you will finish your days?”.
The box is made of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box rests on legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2009.
