Description:

This magnificent work was painted by the outstanding Fedoskino artist Pavel Anokhin. It is painted in the style which is unusual for Fedoskino School of miniature painting. To a great extent it is close to the style of surrealism.
The work is called "A Scamp", and shows a puppeteer who manipulates an inanimate object—a puppet. The puppet looks like a scamp that is why the work was entitled "A Scamp". Like many of Anokhin's creations this work carries a hidden philosophic idea. This idea is expressed in the following poem written on the box's sides: “… threads are not chains, threads hold you tenderly, be careful and don't break with your creator.” This inscription is written in silver paints along a black ribbon outlined with gold. Gold is also used to frame the composition painted on the box's lid.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Dark blue lacquer covers the exterior and cream lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge to its top and rests on four rounded metal legs. A small gold metal knob is attached to the lid's side for ease of opening. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the year of 2010.
