Description:

This adorable composition was painted by Fedoskino artist Irina Turbeneova with astounding detail. The composition is an interpretation of the famous Renaissance painting called "The Birth of Venus" painted by Sandro Botticelli (1445-1510).
The box shows the classical goddess Venus who emerges from the water on a shell, blown towards shore by the Zephyrs, symbols of spiritual passions. She is joined by one of the Horae, goddesses of the seasons, who hands her a flowered cloak.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The edges of the lid are framed with a blue line outlined with gold. The box's sides imitate a stone color: blue veins and blurry spots are scattered against the black lacquered surface. The edges of the box's base are decorated with the ornament that imitates the color of a white marble that is accompanied by two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
