This elegant piece has been created by the well-known Fedokino artist, Viktor Tretyakov. Viktor Tretyakov is a very experienced artist whose unique boxes are displayed in different catalogues on Russian lacquered art.
The box shows the scene of a date that is very popular in art. A pretty girl that looks like a housemaid in a house of a rich Russian aristocrat is having a date with her suitor. A loving couple is speaking to each other tenderly in spite of the tall stone wall that divides them from each other.
The scene is painted in various tones of light grey oils and framed with a stylish gold pattern. The edges of the lid are decorated with a thin gold line. The box's sides are adorned with tartan patterns painted in light grey and white oils and outlined with gold.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
