This entrancing elegance was created by well known Fedoskino husband and wife team Sergey and Marina Rogatovs. Their works, which they paint together, are as easy to recognize as their talents are easy to fall in love with. Here, they have presented an adorable work painted on the Christmas theme.
The star of Bethlehem seems to continue shining over a small, remote Russian village. It's Christmas Eve and all people of the village are gathered in the street to have fun and enjoy a peaceful winter night.
The box's exterior is masterfully decorated. The depicted scene is framed with a gold line. On the box's sides the artist continues to paint a beautiful winter landscape using gold paint. Intricately painted with a very thin brush, fir-trees decorated with shining stars, swirling snowflakes and cozy peasant houses with the chimneys throwing out puffs of smoke up into the starry sky are united together to form a single pattern.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with cream lacquer while the interior is completed with dark red lacquer. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the name of the artists and the village of Fedoskino.
