Description:

This impressive piece of authentic Russian artistry was composed by the talented Fedoskino artists Tatyana Frolova and Pavel Sladkov. Frolova has painted the large piece-Morning in the Woods and Pavel Sladkov has painted four smaller Landscape scenes, which are situated inside the large box.
Frolova Tatyana was born in Moscow in 1961, and now resides in the village of Fedoskino. She graduated from the Fedoskino Art School in 1980. Her teachers were V. Frolov (her father), and V. Kulgalov. Her works are displayed in the Fedoskino Art Museum. Frolova's pieces reflect her preference in painting fairy-tales, bylinas, still lifes, landscapes, portraits, architecture, fauna and scenes of historical monuments.
This set of boxes includes one large box, and four small boxes enclosed inside the interior of the large box. The large box shows a copy of well-known composition "Morning in the Woods" as this work is entitled was originally painted on canvas by Ivan Shishkin. Exhibited in the Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery, it is one of the most popular pieces viewed in the entire museum. It has become something of a national symbol for Russia, which lacquer miniature artists were quick to adopt into their work.
Painted originally in 1889, the scene shows a mother bear watching her three cubs playing on the fallen trunk of a tree. The landscape, executed in transparent technique, presents real Russian impenetrable thickets with mighty firs and pines, lacy foliage and lush grass.
Greens and browns make up the tonal majority in the foreground, while the artist paints the background with aluminum paint in the under layers. The brushwork is impeccable, which reveals the intricate details throughout the foreground.
Two pieces of mother-of-pearl are decorated this scene.
Both- the box's exterior and interior are covered with black lacquer. The lid is hinged at the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Inside the box's interior there are four compartments with four boxes inside. At the bottom of the scene painted on the lid the artist has written her name, Fedoskino, and the year of 2008.
Each of four small boxes is made of papier-mache as well as the large box.
All of the four small boxes are shown beautiful landscape scenes and they were painted by Pavel Sladkov.
Their exterior is covered with black lacquer, and their interior is completed with red lacquer. Their exterior is also decorated with nice gold ornaments. Each of them is hinged at the top of the scene, and rests on four small rounded legs.
The sizes of smaller boxes are:
13.5x10.5x4cm
5.25x4x1.5 inches
