Description:

This elegant box is a creation of Margarita Belova who has a reputation of one of the most popular contemporary Fedoskino artists. Most of all she likes to paint portraits, scenes from peasant life and romantic scenes. All of her works are real miniatures, and this one is not an exclusion of these words! Check the details on the enlarge photos!
The box shows a scene from Pushkin's fairy-tale "Sleeping Princess and Seven Bogatyrs". In this tale, the wicked Queen looks at her magic glass and asks: "Who is the most beautiful woman in the kingdom?". The glass always answers that the Queen is the most beautiful woman in the kingdom until the day when it suddenly announces that there is indeed someone more beautiful than she, her own step-daughter. The Queen orders her servant to kill the Princess in the forest. Feeling sorry for the young beautiful Princess, the servant leaves her in the forest where the girl finds the shelter in the house of seven bogatyrs. Then the Queen takes another attempt to kill the Princess poisoning her with an apple. Being poisoned by the apple, the Princess is put into an eternal sleep. In the end of this tale, Prince Yelisey finds and saves the Princess by awaking her with his sweet kiss.
Here we can a moment when Prince Yelisey just kissed a Sleeping Princess. The scene is painted in various shades of dark blue and gray oils. The costumes of the characters are detailed with gold and aluminum paint and look very rich.
The scene is framed with silver scan patterns (composed of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box). Sparkling stars painted in gold can be also found decorating the box's sides. The box's exterior is covered with dark blue paint; the interior is traditionally red and the bottom of the lid's exterior is black.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene; the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, the name of the work-"Sleeping Beauty" and the village of Fedoskino.
