Oleg Shapkin(born in 1955) is a Top 10 Fedoskino artist. His name and works are mentioned in all the latest books written on Fedoskino lacquer miniature art! During his career Shapkin won many honorable prizes, including the Artist's Union Prize of USSR (1985). His works are exhibited in different museums such as the State Russian Museum, the Moscow Regional Art Museum situated in the town of Istra and the State Historical Museum. Oleg Shapkin is married to the well-known Fedoskino artist Galina Kareva. They have a son Kyril.
This impressive Shapkin's art work shows a winter scene, where a young guy is taking control of a horse, while a young lady is ready to take a ride on this horse.
The palette incorporates dark blue and white oils as the action takes place in winter, with addition of gold and silver metal paints to give a feeling of magic and splendor. The artist demonstrates his unsurpassed skill while painting Lady's festive attire. Painting with an ultra fine brush, he creates exquisite gold lace texture of their fur coats. The branches of trees covered with white fluffy snow, that are also expressively painted, shine in some places with lustrous silver paint.
The box's sides and the back of the box are adorned with fantastically beautiful gold lace patterns!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer. The lid is hinged to the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed with the artist's name and the name of a village of Fedoskino.
