This elegant piece was created by talented Fedoskino artist Liliana Slaeva with a genuine sincerity for quality craftsmanship. The box depicts a winter scene at the skating ring. We can see a tall girl holding the hand of gnome-like partner.
The scene is painted in blue oils against the bright background which is a large piece of mother-of-pearl. Silver powders and the headlines helped to accentuate details of the costumes.
The edges of the lid are decorated with an elegant pattern.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the piece is painted with a creamy white lacquer while the interior is painted with a red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino and the name of the work "Skates".
