This attractive piece was created by Fedoskino master Yevgeniy Potekhin. Fine technique and masterful detail compliment each other on this piece of quality Russian artistry. Potekhin has created many vivid compositions of everyday life which consistently represent the various sides of human nature and the events which shape it.
Here the artist depicts a couple returning home in the sledge. A man and a woman sit in the sledge pulling by a troika of horses, and peasant woman is trying to talk to a coachman. We can see her open mouth and her hand over her head...
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The scene is framed with a gold line while the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name.
