This charming box has been painted by talented Fedoskino artist, Alexey Chirkov. The work is called "Date" and shows a couple of squirrels having a rendezvous. He-squirrel has gathered some nuts for his sweetheart. The scene is painted in the realistic manner, and reflects the artist's high skill of execution.
Through successfully combined colors and entrancing details, Chirkov enchants the viewer while contemplating this scene. Various shades of brown oils predominate here. With the help of silver powder used as an underlayer for this scene the artist fills the light blue, misty background with a magic glow. Shining gold paint is used to create a sparkle of the nuts. The artist inlays a cut of mother-of-pearl into the mushrooms painted in the foreground. The use of mother-of-pearl, silver and gold paint brings an incredible amount of light from the piece.
Painted on an oval paper-mache box, the composition is framed by a line of gold paint. Black lacquer is used to paint the outside and red lacquer is used to paint the inside of the box. On the box's sides the artist has painted a whimsical pattern in the form of gold scrolls. A hinge is located to the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat surface. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title and the year of 2008.
