Relaxing atmosphere of an early summer morning is expressed here by the well-established Fedoskino miniaturist Tatyana Tipyakova. Warm and tender sun rays fall dramatically on the ground, fresh green meadows are still misted, the cock crows loudly trying to wake up everyone around, but the windows of the peasant houses are already lit- people are having breakfast before starting their work.
This divine scene is brilliantly painted. The artist has perfectly reproduced the sensation of sunlight here, filling the composition with air and light. The background is painted rather vaguely, while the objects painted in foreground, especially the cock and the fragment of a tree hanging from the top of the scene, are precisely painted; all this is done to create the depth of the composition and make it look realistic. The river on the background is quite and slow. Gold metal leaf is set into the window of the house painted on the left; it also creates brilliance of the cock's feathers and some of the flowers. Gold paint highlights the ground, the fence, and some other elements but in very minimal amounts.
The scene is framed with a gold line, while the box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while deep red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on legs. The work is signed by the artist and dated (2010).
