This elegant piece was created by talented Fedoskino artist Liliana Slaeva with a genuine sincerity for quality craftsmanship. The box depicts the allegory of winter. The artist imagines winter as a beautiful woman dressed in the warm, white fur coat. She stands in the winter forest and looks meditatively at a distance with her clear blue eyes.
The scene is painted in blue oils against the white background. Silver and gold powders help to accentuate richness of the woman's costume. The edges of the lid are decorated with an elegant pattern composed of gold beads. On the box's exterior bottom the artist has painted one more scene in oils that shows a tree covered with snow.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the piece is painted with a creamy white lacquer while the interior is painted with a deep red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title ("Winter") and the village of Fedoskino.
