Alexey Chirkov is the talented Fedoskino artist who painted this alluring box. It is called "Owls in their Nest", and features the mother-owl feeding its nestlings. The bird holds in its beak a dead mouse, but it isn't enough for hungry nestlings. Soon the mother-owl will have to leave its nest again to catch another prey for its little ones.
Aluminum powder highlights the sky; and slightly visible gold paint highlights the trees.
The scene is framed with a wide band painted in gold.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, the title and the year of 2008 on the box's exterior bottom.
