Description:

This handsome piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Tatyana Tipyakova of Fedoskino. In this work the artist has managed to express beauty of the forest waterfall. The water cascades down the rocks and into the small river below, which seems to boil from the impact. This is a truly fascinating example of landscape composition.
The waterfall depicted on the box's lid can be found in the Karelya situated to the North from Saint Petersburg and might be the only one in this region.
Forest brown, tan and olive are the oils predominate here. This palette is enhanced by gold metal powder used as an underlayer for the oils. By painting the composition with multiple layers the artist creates massive degrees of texture and perspective.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The scene is framed with a silver line while the box's sides are adorned with two parallel silver lines. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a wavy bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the title "Waterfall Kivach", Kareliya.
