Description:

This splendid Snowmaiden was painted by talented Shavirin Boris from Fedoskino. Of course, collectors who are familiar with the works of Oleg Shapkin will say that this is a copy of Shapkin's work. Even so, the work is of outstanding quality!
The box shows Snowmaiden strolling in the forest and feeding birds. The palette incorporates blue and white oils as the action takes place in winter, with addition of gold and silver metal paints to give a feeling of magic and splendor. The artist demonstrates his unsurpassed skill while painting the Snowmaiden's festive attire. Painting with an ultra fine brush, he creates exquisite gold lace texture of her fur coat, stand-up collar and crown. The effect of festivity is strengthened by a piece of mother-of-pear inlaid into her costume; it shimmers beautifully with bright green and blue tints. Another piece of mother-of-pear is shining through the beautiful hat-set (cocoshnik). The third piece of mother-of pearl is shining us from a new moon. The branches of trees covered with white fluffy snow, that are also expressively painted.
The scene is framed with a thick gold band. The painting is continued to the box's sides; here we can see branches and the birds, which are painted in gold.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged at top, and the box rests flat. Signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2014.
