The name of Sergey Rogatov is familiar to any lacquer miniature artist. The works of this Top 5 Fedoskino Master are on display in various museums and lacquer art books.
Here the artist depicted a surreal landscape with wild gooses flying over the winding river, and its picturesque banks. The splendor of Russian countryside and vast expanses of forests and fields is sensitively expressed here.
The scene is thinly outlined in gold. The edges of the lid are adorned with a wavy gold pattern. An intricate gold tartan pattern decorates the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name and Fedoskino.
