Description:

Vladislav Maslov from Fedoskino has painted the scene depicted on this box. It is a fine specimen of an oil based painting, which adheres to the principle techniques and methods of the Fedoskino style. It is an artist's original composition as well, which was taken straight from the creative depths of his head to this box.
Baba-Yaga depicted here is a main character of the Russian folk fairy-tale "Geese and Swans".This composition shows Baba-Yaga staying near her magic hut on chicken legs.Near her we can see young girl Aleonushka, which came to Baba Yaga to resque her sister Ivanushka, that was kidnaped by evil band of Geese and Swans, friends of Baba Yaga.
Baba-Yaga is the oldest character of the Slavonic mythology. Originally Baba-Yaga was the goddess of death; people imagined her as a woman with the snake tail who guarded the entrance into the other world and accompanied the souls of dead people into the Kingdom of the Dead.
Baba Yaga is the most famous figure in Russian fairy tales that represents evil. It is a character of such fairy-tales as "Marya Morevna", "Princess Frog", "The Tale of Life Water and Youth Giving Appels", and many, many others.
The scene is drawn in dark tones as the action takes place in the evening and surround the trees.
A thin gold line acts as a frame for the scene; gold line can be also found wrapping around the bottom part of the box's sides. The box's interior is covered with red paint. The exterior is also decorated with variously shaped leaves that are drawn in silver paint and detailed with bright oils. The title of the work and the artist's name are written under the painting.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened from the top of the scene, and the box rests on the wavy legs.
