Description:

This alluring piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Vladimir Kiselev from the village of Kholuy. The work continues the artist's Nothern theme, and depicts a group of walruses lying peacefully on the drifting ice floe. The palette for this composition is undoubtedly cool. He uses this scheme to emphasize the coldness of the climate as well as give an accurate representation of the landscape. Every animal is painted to look how it would in nature. Gold paint is used to help truly bring out the details in the composition, especially in the fur of walruses and the northern lights painted in the background.
The scene is framed with tiny gold beads while the box's sides are decorated with a nice gold and silver pattern that repeats the shape of snowflakes.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on three legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholui, and the title (“Walruses”).
