This box,featured three picturesque views of St.-Petersburg has been painted by the talented Kholui artist, Feodorova Tatiana. Here we can see major sightseeings of St.Petersburg in winter.
Painting in diminutive strokes, the artist has managed to express a special atmosphere of the city and the grandeur of its architecture.
The scene is painted in brown and gray tones that are the most suitable of depiction of St.-Petersburg, pianted on a contrast of a bright blue skies. Gold paint is used to detail the architecture, the snow and the trees.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. Gold scrollwork frames all the three scenes on the lid, while highly complex ornamentation painted in gold and aluminum makes it way around the sides of the box. The box has a hinge above the scene and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, and village of Kholui.
