Description:

The renowned Sergey Zakharov from the village of Kholui has crafted another masterpiece based on the interesting "The Tale of Tsar Saltan". It features a moment when the family is reunited and the characters have gathered to celebrate this happy occasion.
The depth and accuracy of Zakharov's painting finds itself at the apex in contemporary lacquer painting circles, and his intricate compositions are favored by many collectors. He is also highly respected in Kholuy, and sets a high standard for aspiring artists. His works are featured in many lacquer art books, including M. Nekrasova's Russian Lacquer Miniatures and A. Kamorin's Lacquer Miniature-Kholui: Masterpieces of Russian Folk Art.
Orange, red and brown tones dominate here. Gold is abundantly used to add various details to the scene.
The entire surface of the box is filled with wondrous detail. Zakharov's steady hand is able to create minute elements that are at first invisible because they blend so well with the overall scene. Close inspection must be given this piece in order to appreciate all of its complexity.
The scene is framed with very beautiful gold scrolling designs. The sides of the box are filled with richly detailed ornament, featuring foliage, scrollwork, and also beading. The lid is hinged from the top of the painting, and the piece rests on four legs.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer was used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box.
Not only has Zakharov signed, dated (2004), titled ("Feast") the composition on the lid, but a special inscription can be found on the inside of the lid as well. It states that the piece is an original work by the author, and again gives the title, date, and name of the artist.. This is a colossal work by one of Kholuy's best!
