Nina Babarkina is a talented Kholui artist who painted this box. Here she has chosen to depict an episode from the fairy-tale "Turnip". The plot of this tale is very interesting. The huge turnip grew in the kitchen garden. Nobody could pull it out of the land. The old man tried, the old woman tried, the grandson tried, the granddaughter tried, the dog tried, the cat tried, but everything was in vain. Suddenly the mouse ran up to them, wagged its tail, and only then the turnip was pulled out from the land.
The box's exterior is decorated with beautiful gold and aluminum ornaments. The box's interior is subdivided into three sections (the box has three interior compartments); there is a small drawer within the front side of the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the titled ("Turnip"), Kholui and the fact that this is an author's original work on the interior of the lid.
