Description:

Mikhail Veselov from the village of Kholuy is the talented artist responsible for this hand crafted beauty. The details are a delight, a bouquet of infinite intricacy that can be enjoyed time and time again. The talent is evident. The composition shows the scenes from the memorable tale of, "The Golden Cockerel", written by Alexander Pushkin. It is the defining three moments, but on the major and main view we can see a moment when Tsar Dadon comes back to his kingdom with the bride he is to marry. She is the Queen of Shemakha, whose beauty has blinded the weak tsar and made him forget about the important things in life. The end of the tale is tragic: Tsar Dadon is punished for his cruelty.
On the right and the left upper cornerswe can see two other scenes from this fairytale-the very beginning- the meeting of Tzar Dadon and magician and meeting with Queen of Shemakha.
The palette here is very diverse, incorporating greens, reds, browns, and grays in a bright array of combinations. Gold is used to enhance the already intricate detailing and bring out the true power of his palette.
The work demonstrates the artist's talent of a miniature-painter as he managed to paint over twenty human figures and complex detailed architecture on this box.
Golden beads, painted in various sizes, frame around the lid's artistry. The sides of the box are decorated with beautiful and complex floral ornamentation painted in gold and aluminum.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition , and the box rests on four legs. It is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholuy, the of year 2014, and the title.
