The details are a delight, a bouquet of infinite intricacy that can be enjoyed time and time again. The talent is evident. The composition shows the scenes from the Russian fairytale "Untold dream".
This long story with a happy end tells us about smart young lad Ivan, who has helped the Tsar to marry tsarina Elena the beautiful, which give to Tsar several tricky tasks.
The palette here is very diverse, incorporating reds and browns in a bright array of combinations. Gold is used to enhance the already intricate detailing and bring out the true power of his palette. Lot's of golden intricate onaments has devided the composition in several parts.
The work demonstrates the artist's talent of a miniature-painter as he managed to paint over FIFTY human figures and complex detailed architecture on this box. Golden beads, painted in various sizes, frame around the lid's artistry. The sides of the box are decorated with beautiful and complex floral ornamentation painted in gold and aluminum and has painting parts as well.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition , and the box rests on four legs. It is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholuy, the of year 2014, and the title on the exterior's base.
