Description:

This bouquet of charm was composed by the talented Antonina Medvedeva from the village of Mstera. A grand assembly of action is presented with a vigorous freshness. Light and lively colors evolve into a supreme setting that all of the characters can fully appreciate as their own. The artist desired that the two interact poetically. The results identify the achievement.
Using the iconographic method of artistic application, the artist has produced several of the most memorable moments from the Russian favorite entitled, "The Tale of Ruslan and Ludmila." This method of painting allows for more than one element of time and space to exist together upon the same surface.
The central composition depicts the wedding ceremony of Ruslan and Lyudmila. To the left from it we can see the wicked wizard Chernomor kidnapping Lyudmila, and to the right the artist depicts the battle of Ruslan and Chernomor.
Light green and yellowish-brown are the main tones to paint this composition. Each character is elaborately painted with a lot of different details. The architecture is also very well painted giving the composition balance and perspective.
The edges of the lid are decorated with elaborate gold and aluminum patterns, while the sides of the box are adorned with elegant aluminum designs.
The box is constructed from paper-mache made in the village of Mstera. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while a radiant red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed and titled by the artist.
