Description:

Mstera' s Valentin Tikhomirov is the talent behind this work. The artist consistently paints his compositions and the surrounding decoration on an equal plane. Here he has chosen to depict a fragment from the fairy-tale "The Tale of Tsar Saltan and his son Prince Gvidon". In the middle of the composition Tsar Saltan and his wife sit on their thrones, and receive foreign guests.
The inner setting of the throne room is richly detailed. It excellently reflects the style of Russian Medieval architecture. Looking at the costumes of the characters, the viewer can imagine what clothes Russian people wore at the times of Ivan the Terrible. The scene is painted in bright tempera paints and detailed with gold paints.
The scene is framed with a gold line, while the edges of the box are adorned with gold beads. The box's sides are decorated with luxuriant eastern patterns painted in gold paints, and accented with green, blue and red tempera paints.
The box is constructed from paper-mache made. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while a lively red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
