Description:

Anatoliy Yakimochev of Mstera is the talented artist responsible for this beautiful box. It shows a picturesque view of the ancient Russian town of Vladimir in winter. Vladimir is located on the Klyazma River, 200 kilometers (124 mi) to the east of Moscow. Traditionally, the founding date of Vladimir has been acknowledged as 1108. The town was named after Vladimir Monomakh, who inherited the region as part of the Rostov-Suzdal principality in the 1093.
Bright red and pink tones of tempera paints help the artist to create the illusion that the snow reflects a glow of the sunset.
The scene is outlined with gold. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are adorned with intricate gold patterns. On the box's sides these patterns are accented with green, red, yellow and lilac tempera paints.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with Mstera, the title (“Ancient Vladimir”), the year of 2002 and the artist's name.
