Description:

This splendid small box is a creation of talented artist and teacher Nikolay Molodkin from the village of Mstera. His father is the outstanding Mstera Master Vladimir Molodkin, his brothers- Denis and Daniil, are the leading artists of the village Mstera as well. Nikolay is a teacher in Mstera Art school.
This box is named "Robin Hood" and shows one of the episodes of Robin Hood's battles with the "officials".
Robin Hood is a heroic outlaw in English folklore. A highly skilled archer and swordsman, he is known for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor", assisted by a group of fellow outlaws known as his "Merry Men". Traditionally Robin Hood and his men are depicted wearing Lincoln green clothes. The origin of the legend is claimed by some to have stemmed from actual outlaws, or from ballads or tales of outlaws.
The color palette is based on harmonious combinations of brown, blue and yellow tones. Gold paint is used with great care and precision in the composition. The application of the gold is very well done, and only enhances the flair of the box without overpowering the eye.
The composition is framed with original gold ornamentation that looks like a photo frame. The sides of the box are decorated with intricate gold floral patterns.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened along the top of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed, dated (2011) and titled by the author.
Fine box!
