Description:

This small, but nicely painted composition was created by talented Mstera artist Natale Staroverova.
Here the artist depicts a scene from the imaginative story entitled, "The Tale of Tsar Saltan". The story is also known as "The Princess Swan." The scene shows one of the three wonders of Gvidon's island: a squirrel that is cracking golden nuts with emeralds inside and singing songs. The squirrel is sitting in the crystal house guarded by a warrior. A scribe is recording every golden shell and every emerald with the help of a girl.
The scene is painted in bright tempera paints. Brilliant gold paint is used to detail the figure of a Squirrel.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The exterior is decorated with rich and very beautiful gold and silver patterns. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera and the title.
