Description:

This thoroughly attractive work was composed by well known Mstera master Daniil Molodkin. Daniil is one of the most popular Russian lacquer artists in North America. The fresh view on the world that he spins into every one of his works, is a marvelous portrayal of not only his creativity, but of his desire to make the world a more beautiful place. He shows us a side of this magic world filled with fantastic creatures and whimsical plants. This work isn't exception. It shows a dwarf crossing the bridge in the cart drawn by a cat, and the magic world opens up behind his back. The bright yellow moon shines on the blue sky bestrewn with golden stars; fantastic plants are covered with different bugs; goggle-eyed fish swim at the depth of a crystal lake; and there is a nest filled with multicolored eggs under the bridge. The artist paints this world enthusiastically depicting even the tiniest details; for instance he depicts a small bird pecking a tiny mosquito. Blue and green tones dominate this scene. Gold paint is used with great care and precision. The application of the gold is very well done, and only enhances the flair of the box without overpowering the eye.
This elegantly shaped box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid's composition and the sides of the box are decorated with beautiful gold floral ornamentation. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a small platform. The work is signed with the artist's name, village and title.
