Description:

Alexander Dogadin of Mstera painted this work. It features the final scene from Pushkin's "Tale of Tsar Saltan". The sumptuous feast has been arranged in the palace of Prince Gvidon. The guests and all people of the kingdom celebrate the reunion of Tsar Saltan's family who found his wife and son on the Buyan Island. The final line of the poem "...and I was at that feast, I drank beer and honey" has been chosen as the title for the work.
The palette is bright and bold. The oranges and the blues are the first to come into full view in this scene. Gold paint is used to accent various details. Throughout the composition there is a great amount of movement in the sea, the landscape, and in each of the characters.
Beautiful gold and aluminum ornamentation frames the composition. In the left upper corner there is an icon of Blessed Virgin with a Child. The sides of the box are decorated with the identical ornamentation that can be found on the lid, but it is complicated with original designs painted in mustard and red tempera paints and outlined with gold paints.
The box is made out of paper-mache made in Mstera. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on four legs. The work is signed and titled by the artist.
