Description:

Infected he was. Infected with the lack of respect, the lack of appreciation. The warrior wondered long and hard as to the reasons for this outward display of ungratefulness. His insides were screaming while his mind skipped in thought like an inward cough. The confusion was too much to bear.
He had fought so bravely while the others boasted the day away. He did not ask for anything, the kindness as savior was a complete natural doing for him. It was simple, they would not believe.
If these were peasant folk, understanding could be a capable act. But no, these were the warrior's peers. Their doubt made his heart swell. All that he had left was a dramatic form of expression. He'd make them remember, and their children would remember as well. So, express he did....
This beautiful composition was created by established Mstera master Piotr Sosin. Sosin has a flare for the dramatics. His works are colorfully creative, and they offer a distinctly profound medieval personality that is very difficult to produce. For Sosin, it is practically second nature. The characters that he creates always appear to be involved in the action that they represent, rather than flat members of a painted sketch. This is just another reason why Piotr Sosin's work is so collectible.
The box features several episodes from the Russian epic called "Sukhman the Bogatyr". This is the tumultuous story of a warrior whose heart was broken, in turn leading to a self imposed tragedy that would scar the minds of the disbelievers for all eternity. The doubters have been composed towards the center of the scene, while Sukhman is painted crossing the banks of the Dnepr River. The mighty warrior's horse can be seen just above him in mid-leap. The doubting began once Sukhman defended the lands of Prince Vladimir from the invading hordes of the Tatars in a most unsolicited manner. This was also accomplished single-handed mind you. This doubt would cast poor Sukhman into a storm cloud of inner rage that would not relent. The doubters would pay for this on their conscience for years to come.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition to be used for ease of opening. The lid's composition has been framed with an elegant filigree pattern painted with gold paint. This decoration can also be found upon all four base sides.
Color and energy dominate the composition. Rich, dark, flavorful tones enhance the medieval personality that Sosin desired to exude through the work. The swirling currents of the river are expertly achieved. The blue used here looks all the more liquid when compared to the reds, greens and oranges within the other areas. The blending melt of the background horizon is very soothing. Pink, yellow, white and powder blue enjoy each other's company.
The work is signed and titled by the artist.
