Description:

This work has been painted by the famous Mstera painter Piotr Sosin. It is called "Pushkin's fairy-tales". In the middle of the composition we can see Alexander Pushkin reciting his poetry. All around him there are the characters from his fairy-tales. The left side features the characters from "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" including thirty-three warriors with their uncle Chernomor, Tsar Saltan sailing to Gvidon's island and the magic squirrel. The middle part shows the magic oak from the introduction to "Ruslan and Luydmila". The right part depicts the characters from "The Sleeping Princess", "The Magic Fish", and "Ruslan and Lyudmila".
The work is painted in the traditional for Mstera art colors: green, blue, yellow, red and brown. These contrast colors are successfully matched and well balanced. The usage of contrasting colors, that placed side-by-side, helps to produce a gorgeous mosaic effect. A beautiful example of it can be seen in Sosin's tree canopies. This method is also used to create ripples on the sea and to make shapes of multicolored hills. Gold paint is used with great subtlety to accent many areas of the composition.
The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with beautiful gold and aluminum ornamentation.
The box is constructed out of papier-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge affixed above the composition and rests on four rounded legs. It is signed with the artist's name, and the village of Mstera.
