Description:

This splendid box is a creation of Nikolay Molodkin from the village of Mstera. His father is the outstanding Mstera artist Vladimir Molodkin, his brothers, Denis and Danilo, are the leading artists of the village. This work proves that Nikolay is as talented as his relatives, and has his peculiar painting style.
The work is called "Three Kingdoms". The left part of the box features the kingdom of England as the Queen holds a sheet of paper with the following inscription written on it: "Great Britain". The top part of the box shows the Asian kingdom. The Mongolian khan sits on the eastern carpet inside the tent. The left part of the box displays the Slavonic kingdom. The brave warrior rides his steed ready to defend his north lands.
The color palette is based on harmonious combinations of brown and blue tones. Gold paint is used with great care and precision in the composition. The application of the gold is very well done, and only enhances the flair of the box without overpowering the eye.
The composition is framed with original gold ornamentation that looks like a photo frame. The sides of the box are decorated with intricate gold floral patterns.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened along the top of the composition and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed, dated (2006) and titled by the author.
