Description:

Pavel Golovanov of Mstera painted this work. He has a talent to surprise lacquer miniature enthusiasts with any of his new work. It's enough to glace at this magnificent piece to understand such feelings. Irreproachable technique, very beautiful color combinations and unexpected interpretation of the well-known tale are combined here.
Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland" is the subject of this box. The Hare, the Hat, Alice and the Dormouse sit at the table. At this moment the Hat tells Alice that the Time has taken offence and stopped; and now it will be always 5 o'clock. It is the time of afternoon snack in England, when English men usually drink tea. Just over them the Cheshire Cat lies on the tree branches and smiles as usual. To the left from the Cat there is the house of the Rabbit, and the gardeners painting white roses with red paint. The rest part of the composition is filled with the fairy-tale landscape of the Lewis Carroll's fantastic world.
The palette is very bright and filled with oranges, reds, greens and blues. Gold paint is used to add details and highlight areas of importance in the scene. With fine brushwork, Golovanov has created vivid detail on the faces of the characters, both people and animals.
The composition is framed with a gold line. The edges of the lid are decorated with intricate gold leafy patterns. Complex gold and aluminum leafy patterns can be also found wrapping around the box's sides. Aluminum floral ornamentation adorn each of the box's legs.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer was used to paint the exterior of the piece while a brilliant red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. Golovanov signed and titled his work on exterior bottom of the box in gold paints.
