Description:

This box painted by the famous Mstera artist Anatoly Shirokov depicts scenes from the tale "Vasilisa the Beautiful". In the center we can see the moment when Vasilisa finds the hut of Baba-Yaga in the forest, and meets three riders: the Red Sun Rider, the Dark Night Rider, and the Bright Day Rider. Near each rider the artist writes his name in red tempera paints.
From the left of the central scene Shirokov paints Vasilisa the Beautiful walking through the forest at night. She has fulfilled all Baba-Yaga's tasks, and now she is on her way home. The light of the skulls' eyes lights up the path for the girl.
From the right of the central scene Vasilisa sits under the tree, terrified by forest beasts. It is the very beginning of the tale when the girl strolls through the dark forest at night trying to find Baba-Yaga's hut.
The scene is painted in turquoise, blue and orange-brown tones. Gold and aluminum paints are used to enhance the details and to outline areas of the scene for added emphasis.
The composition is framed with the band painted in mustard tempera paints and outlined with gold. The edges of the lid are decorated with complex gold floral design accented with aluminum paint. The same ornamentation of a bigger size can be found wrapping around the box's sides. On each of the box's sides Shirokov has painted additional composition on the theme of night forest. On the front sided we can see swans flying in the night sky, lit by the cold light of the full moon. On the right side
