Description:

This lavish piece of genuine Russian artistry was composed by the talented Piotr Sosin from the village of Mstera. It is called "Russian Samovar", and features the artist's fantasy on this theme.
In the center of the composition Sosin depicts representatives of various nations that live in modern Russia and also peoples that lived in the former Soviet Union. They sit at the round table and drink tea from the big Russian samovar. This scene shows symbolically that Russian culture and traditions are adopted by various peoples and nations.
Around the central scene the artist paints idyllically the happy life of Russian people. At the background there is a view of Moscow Kremlin.
This composition is very colorful and decorative. It is painted in the traditional for Mstera art colors: green, orange, blue, yellow, red and brown. These contrast colors are successfully matched and well balanced. The usage of contrasting colors, that placed side-by-side, helps to produce a gorgeous mosaic effect. A beautiful example of it can be seen in Sosin's trees and multicolored hills. Gold paint is used with great subtlety to accent some areas of the composition.
Intricate gold floral ornamentation accompanied by a string of gold beads frames the composition, and wraps around the sides of the box.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged at top, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Mstera, and the title ("Russian Samovar") .
