Description:

Mstera master Anatoliy Shirokov has composed an iconographic gem. Historical significance among a delight of decoration. His masterful brushstrokes awaken the majesty of the scene. Style that bellows tradition.
The box's shows the Royal Romanov Family; it is one of the most favorite Shirokov's themes. In the center we can see Tsaritsa Alexandra Romanova, Tsar Nikolay Romanov, and Tsarevich Alexei. From the left of Tsaritsa Alexandra the artist has painted Princess Anastasia and Princess Olga while from the right of Tsar Nikolay he has depicted Princess Marya and Princess Tatyana. Two angels hold the icon of the Blessed Virgin with her Child above the royal family as a sign of the God's blessing over the martyrs. In the left and right parts of the composition Shirokov has written a fragment from the prayer dedicated to the royal family.
Green, brown and red-orange tones of the character's costumes look wonderful against the soothing mustard background sky. There are numerous sharp details in the clothing of the characters, architectural structures and in the designs patterned upon the clothing. Shirokov completes all of this precise execution without the use of a magnifying device. The application of bright gold contours adds luster to the composition. The halos shine angelic around the heads of the family while the design work upon their clothing twinkles when the piece is moved or viewed from different angles.
An enticing pattern of ornate gold and silver filigree, accented with wild flowers highlighted with tempera paints, acts as the framing for the lid's brilliant art work. The identical pattern is used to decorate the base of the box on all four sides. These patterns intensify the golden highlights painted on the lid of the work.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while a radiant red lacquer completes the interior of the piece. The hinge for this piece is placed to the left of the composition. The box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera, and the title.
