Daniil Molodkin of Mstera not only has great artistic skills, but has an imagination teeming with fantasy filled thoughts. His work has found itself in the hands of many international collectors and his popularity is growing fast. He does not limit himself to painting themes from Russian tales, rather he makes up his own scenes from tales that exist in his head, and Russofies them so they fit in the Russian lacquer art genre.
The work is called "Crash Landing". Here the artist has painted the sad Alien sitting inside his broken spaceship, and the Dwarf who hastens to help him. The Dwarf intends to repair the spaceship as he has a tool kit attached to his hat, and to offer the hungry Alien fresh fruits.
To paint this work the artist has used his favorite palette filled with greens, blues and reds. Gold paint is used to detail the gnome's costume, and some of the plants.
The scene is framed with a thin gold line. The sides of the box, and the edges of the lid are decorated with Molodkin's signature style leafy patterns painted in gold and aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The artist's name, the village of Mstera, and the title can be found at the bottom of the scene written in gold paint.
